About the Festival of the Web

The world’s best digital and creative minds will be down under next April when Perth hosts the inaugural Festival of the Web from Sunday April 2 to Friday April 9.

One of the biggest events to land in Perth, the Festival will attract some 2,500 delegates and attendees from Australia, Asia and around the world who will not just get a taste of the very best Western Australian hospitality, but will immerse themselves in conferences, workshops, talks, exhibitions and live events on the future of the web in Perth and at some of WA’s most iconic destinations.
Featuring dozens of exciting activities from dawn to dusk focused on our digital age, the Festival will bring together entrepreneurs, academia, industry, government and the Perth community over a jam-packed week at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre and co-located venues.

No code will be unturned, as web experts, futurists and global heads of major technology and innovation companies debate the current international web landscape, its future and how it will impact society. During the week, we will be dissecting major developments impacting our switched-on society, from social media to hacking and web security, to the online marketplace, ethics and games.

At the core of the Festival of the Web is the annual World Wide Web Conference (WWW2017), with major streams on ‘Systems and Infrastructure’ and ‘Semantics and Knowledge’ a likely catalyst for building technological expertise and a lasting legacy for WA through collaboration opportunities for academics and students, and strengthening business ties with south-east Asia, particularly in the IT and education industries.

These events will provide a rare opportunity for WA’s emerging and established IT industry: designers, developers, gamers, start-ups and students to rub shoulders with the world’s tech gurus through the many Festival events and activities.


The Festival of the Web will be held at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre (PCEC).

The PCEC is located on the southern edge of the Central Business District adjacent to the Swan River and Elizabeth Quay.

The PCEC is easy to access with many hotels within a short walk and Bus, Train and Ferry terminals nearby. Kings Park, with great views of the Swan River estuary and the city is just a short walk uphill, or take one of the free city buses.

Q: If I purchase a multi-day pass for the Festival of the Web, what events can I attend?

A: Anyone who purchases a multi-day Festival of the Web pass will be able to attend all official Festival of the Web events held on the days that you have a valid pass for. Note that not all events on during The Festival of the Web will be official events: they may be private events, or require the purchase of an additional ticket if you wish to attend them.

Where there are restrictions on attendance, we will clearly indicate this in the description of the event. Some examples include:
• The Big Day In which is aimed specifically at Secondary School students interested in careers in the web, IT etc;
• The Extreme Tech Festival which will be held in locations outside of the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre;
• The late-night Web-focused comedy festival in small bars around the central city.

We aim to include as many activities as possible in your daily pass. Program details for all events will be released early in 2017 – until then, be sure to Sign Up to receive regular information and updates.


Q: When can I register for an individual event?


A: In general, registration for individual events will open in February 2017, at the same time the EarlyBird registration ceases. At this time we will also release the full details of the program for each event, including Keynote and invited speakers, session times and any social events included for each event.

We may open registration for some selected events earlier than February. If we do, we will announce this in our regular newsletters, so be sure to Sign Up to receive this information.


Q: If I purchase a multi-day pass, do I need to separately register for individual events?


A: When the full program detail for the Festival of the Web is released, we recommend that all multi-day pass holders advise us which events they plan to attend on each day. We will provide an online tool linked to your Festival of the Web account where you will be able to create a personalised program and access it on your mobile device. We will use this information to help plan for the correct number of attendees for each event and in deciding which conference rooms each event will be held in.

In some cases, there may be limits on the number of delegates recommended for each event, so by creating your personalised program, you will be assured of being able to attend the events you prefer.


Q: What if I choose a 3-Day Pass and later decide that I want to attend events on other days as well?


A: No problem. When we open registration for individual events next year, we will also offer single-day passes – and for those who already have multi-day passes, a PLUS One Day pass at a comparable daily rate to the pass you have already purchased.

We want you to be able to attend all of the events that interest you – that’s why we are filling each day with so many fantastic events and activities.
